Our lab retreat started in Leuven station, where we gathered for a day of fun in Mechelen. Our city tour in Mechelen was guided by Amber, Marc, and Jurgen, who filled the walk with stories and anecdotes. We explored the Melaan and other typical inlets from the plank bridges along the riverbanks of the Dyle. We visited the Large and Small Beguinage with a visit to the Beguinage Church, Brewery De Anker, the museum gardens around Museum Hof van Busleyden, the Rumbold's Cathedral, and the Dossin Kazerne, while also learning why Mechelen is called the city of the "Maneblussers,""Maneblussers" which means Moon Extinguishers.

At midday, we enjoyed a picnic-style lunch in the city park before heading to Burneys, where the pace picked up with an adrenaline-fueled karting session. The fun continued with pool, darts, and bowling tournaments, sparking plenty of friendly competition.

We closed the day on a high note with a fantastic dinner together, a perfect ending to a day of culture, adventure, and team spirit.
