In a pioneering collaboration, academic researchers, industry leaders, and charitable organizations have united to tackle type 1 diabetes (T1D), backed by a 22 million euro grant from the IHI.

The EDENT1FI project, which stands for "European Action for the Diagnosis of Early Non-Clinical Type 1 Diabetes for Disease Interception," is a global consortium of 28 partners across 12 countries. Together, they share a common goal: to detect T1D in its preclinical stage in children from the general population. This ambitious initiative is funded by the Horizon Europe program and will span a period of five years.

The EDENT1FI consortium has been initiated by

  • Prof. Dr. Chantal Mathieu of the Leuven Diabetes Lab, KU Leuven.
  • Prof. Dr. Mark Peakman, representing Sanofi.
  • Prof. Dr. Anette Ziegler, Director of the Institute of Diabetes Research at Helmholtz Munich, German Research Center for Environmental Health.
  • Dr. Jeannette Söderberg, Director of European Research for Breakthrough T1D (former JDRF International).
