Hey Hippo: Making Type 1 Diabetes Understandable for Children

November 14, 2021
In Belgium, almost one child a day is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Ahead of World Diabetes Day, AKA DE MENSEN and VOLSTOK created the animation video Hey Hippo, with music and vocals by the Belgian guitarist and vocalist Mauro Pawlowski (know from Evil Superstars, dEUS, Gruppo di Pawlowski...).

The video explains in a simple and relatable way how children can cope with the disease. It was commissioned by the Hippo & Friends Type 1 Diabetes Fund, based at KU Leuven, and funded by Chantal Mathieu, Kristina Casteels, Pieter Gillard, and vzw Hippo and Friends, which supports children and their families in living with type 1 diabetes.

Hey Hippo turns a complex story of hypos, hypers, and daily struggles into a hopeful and memorable song.
