Conny Gysemans and Tom van Belle received the Fonds Yvonne et Jacques François-de Meurs Award of the King Baudouin Foundation, accompanied by a prize of 25 000 EUR, for their project on combining VDR ligands and HDAC inhibitors as a novel immunotherapy for type 1 diabetes and islet graft rejection.

Conny Gysemans and Tom van Belle have been honored as laureates of the Fonds Yvonne et Jacques François-de Meurs, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation (KBS). Their project, “Combining vitamin D receptor (VDR) ligands and histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors as novel immunotherapy for type 1 diabetes and islet graft rejection,” explores innovative therapeutic approaches aimed at modulating immune responses to improve diabetes treatment and transplant outcomes.

The award is accompanied by a prize of 25 000 EUR, recognizing the importance and promise of their research.

The official award ceremony took place on Thursday, 19 November 2010, at the Domein Latour de Freins in Ukkel (Brussels). The event was held in the presence of H.R.H. Princess Astrid, together with the jury members and governing committees of the various scientific funds under the King Baudouin Foundation. Following the ceremony, guests were invited to a reception celebrating the achievements of the laureates.
