The Leuven Diabetes Lab is proud to congratulate Chantal Mathieu on receiving the Distinguished International Service in the Cause of Diabetes Award from the ADA during its 2026 Scientific Sessions in New Orleans.

This prestigious award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the global fight against diabetes through research, clinical care, education, advocacy, and international leadership. Throughout her career, Chantal has been a driving force in advancing diabetes care and research, while fostering collaborations that extend across disciplines, institutions, and continents.

In her acceptance speech, she reflected on the importance of working together to address the challenges faced by people living with diabetes. Referring to the Belgian motto, “Unity makes strength,” she emphasized that scientific progress is built on collaboration, shared knowledge, and collective commitment. This philosophy has been central to her work and continues to shape the mission of the Leuven Diabetes Lab.

For decades, Chantal has combined excellence in research with a deep commitment to patient care, education, and mentorship. Her leadership has helped advance our understanding of diabetes and has inspired generations of researchers and healthcare professionals.
