B cells

B cells play a crucial role in type 1 diabetes by producing antibodies that can target and attack the body’s own cells, including beta cells in the pancreas. These antibodies are often used as biomarkers for the disease and indicate the presence of an ongoing autoimmune response. However, the exact role of B cells in the progression of type 1 diabetes remains under investigation, as they may also contribute to the immune response through their interaction with T cells and other immune components, further driving beta-cell destruction. Understanding their precise function could lead to new therapeutic strategies aimed at modulating B-cell activity.
